wH2O is an online, open-access, peer-reviewed academic journal for gender and water around the world.
Our vision is to publish an annual journal, and to provide a centralized hub for gender, water and sanitation information, research, and discussion.
wH2O was founded in 2011 by two students in the Masters of Environmental Studies at University of Pennsylvania in effort to advance women's status through addressing sanitation and water issues.
Our mission is to serve social scientists, academics, development professionals, and water practitioners through the annual peer-reviewed publication of significant advances in the field of gender and water studies, and to provide a forum for the reporting and discussion of news and issues concerning that field. We aim to ensure that the results of interdisciplinary research regarding gender and water are disseminated to the public throughout the world in order to advance economic and social development toward gender equality within the field of water governance and management.
